Providing family dental care to Haymarket, Gainesville and
northern Virginia since 1982

Stanley F. Kayes DDS PC

When I graduated from dental school in 1981, I had some big decisions to make. Planning on where to set up a practice involves a long-term commitment to a geographic area, to a community, to patients. When the town of Haymarket was suggested to me as a location that needed a dentist I came out for a look along with my wife. It was love at first sight for both of us. The mountains, the rural atmosphere, the tranquility, and the friendly people I met spoke to me that this was home. I made my decision that afternoon to set up roots here and opened a practice six months later.

Decades later I still practice in this town, and although things have changed somewhat, I still see that the basic values that brought me here remain in force. I feel the neighborliness shine when I see families on the soccer fields and it brings back fond memories of my own children's sports activities in Long Park. I see my life enriched daily as delightful new patients come to my office, joining the dental 'family' that is my practice. I share in lives that change over the years, seeing my youngest patients grow up, form families of their own, and then entrust their own children to my care. I share with my adult patients who have been with me over the years our common feelings about the ups and downs of life. All in all I feel that my dental practice means much more to me than simply fixing teeth- it has been an honor to be part of the tradition of being a health care practitioner, and I face the future with the same commitment I have always had, to provide care not only in terms of technical competency, but also with the ideal of forming a long-lasting relationship with every patient I meet.

Taking Dentistry to New Heights

Dr. Kayes in Shenandoah National Park

With an office located in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, I have found that our "new heights" theme is a great visual way to showcase both our local scenery and tell a little about myself and my passion for enjoying outdoor activities.

However, "new heights" also highlights my practice philosophy, conveying values as a health care professional to strive to provide up to date, comprehensive, and compassionate care to patients while understanding that the doctor's role also extends to the community at large. Below are our "new heights" pledges for patient care.

We strive to go beyond the notion of "drill and fill" dentistry by helping patients end the cycle of poor dental health. We also pledge to provide minimally invasive dental care to preserve healthy tooth structure and to utilize state of the art technology to optimize care.

  • VELscope oral cancer detection system
  • Antibacterial detection, nutrition education, and remineralization programs
  • Laser dentistry for shot free fillings and painless periodontal treatment
  • Computer aided crown fabrication, with in-office one-day crown service

We understand that dental problems may be interrelated with overall physical or emotional health problems, and through education, encouragement, and referral, we work to help our patients achieve optimal health and well being.

  • Thorough medical history evaluations with attention to medical/dental interrelationships
  • Active referral and education program for improving health and fitness

We recognize that as doctors we have a role to play in the community and work to insure that dental education and care are available to our local population.

  • Volunteer services by doctors and staff to Prince William Free Clinic
  • Participation in Mission of Mercy, a program providing dental services to low income populations throughout the state of Virginia
  • Education through local schools and day care centers on children's dental health

The Art of Dentistry

Kayes Rocky Mountain

One of the reasons I went into dentistry in the first place is that I always loved working with my hands. While I was attracted to science at an early age and enjoyed studying biology, I was also continually involved in artistic pursuits throughout my youth. I knew that for me to be happy in a career, I had to be able to blend my two passions, and dentistry has proven to be the best of both worlds for me, combining art and science in delivery of care to my patients. I thoroughly enjoy the daily challenges of 'mini-sculptures' in the mouth as I carve fillings, match shades of porcelain, and compose the perfect veneer or crown. My abilities to provide aesthetic care have been even more enhanced recently as I have embraced Cad-Cam technology, a computer aided system that allows me to take on the intricate process of crown design, where I can now have even more input into the process of aesthetic characterization as I work to individualize the dental procedures I perform to meet the unique needs of my patients.

While I love the art of dentistry, I have never neglected my enjoyment of artistic endeavors outside of the office, and I am actively involved in painting, sculpting, furniture building, marquetry, stained glass, and iron work. I find that taking time for these hobbies enriches my dental skills, and has provided me with connections to discover my own patients' artistic interests. I share here my portfolio of some of my own work to help my patients get to know my artistic side and to help them understand my commitment to craftsmanship in my dental practice.
